If someone with Medicare and Medicaid is denied the Medicare Savings Program because of assets, do they keep both or enroll in a regular MAPD? Has anyone faced this? Thoughts?

If I'm not mistaken as long as a person meets the Medicaid eligibility requirements they still keep medicare and Medicaid despite being denied MSP

so, if someone with both Medicare and Medicaid is denied an MSP due to assets, they most likely keep both Medicare and Medicaid.
They wouldn't typically enroll in a "regular" MAPD plan, but rather remain in a plan designed for dual eligible individuals

If someone with medicare and medicaid gets denied the medicare savings program due to assets, they usually keep both medicare and medicaid but won't automatically switch to a MAPD plan, they'll keep original medicare with medicaid help, it's a good idea to check with the state medicaid office for options or other assistance programs

Yeah, that's correct, MSP denial doesn't mean they lose Medicare or Medicaid. It just means they won't get the extra help from MSP. They can still stay dual-eligible without switching to a MAPD.

Exactly, being denied MSP doesn't kick them out of dual status. They'd usually stay in a D-SNP, not switch to a regular MAPD. Assets affect MSP, not their core Medicare-Medicaid eligibility.

Yep, that's spot on. Denial of MSP affects cost-sharing help, not core coverage. They'll likely stay on Original Medicare with Medicaid help, it is still smart to check with the state for any backup programs or waivers
