Medicare supplement vs Advantage?

I'm new here and I'm trying to help my father with his Medicaid planning. He just moved and might qualify for a Medicare supplement, which would mean a monthly premium, versus his current no-premium advantage plan. I'm wondering if paying that premium would be a good thing for Medicaid purposes, since it would reduce his countable income, or if it would somehow hurt his chances. Does having an advantage plan make qualifying any easier or harder? Thanks for any insight!

The good news is, paying for Medicare supplements actually lowers the income Medicaid counts! Advantage plans usually don't mess with Medicaid, but things can get tricky if you're in both. To be safe, chat with a Medicaid planner to figure out the rules where you live

Switching to a Medicare supplement could actually help with Medicaid income limits since the premium is a deduction from his income, lowering countable income. An Advantage plan doesn't generally hurt Medicaid eligibility, but it doesn't reduce countable income like a Medigap premium would, simple

Have you had a chance to compare how the Advantage plan versus a Medicare supplement would affect his overall Medicaid eligibility and out-of-pocket costs?
