Medicaid expansion on the chopping block?

Just read in Newsweek that federal funding for Medicaid expansion might be cut and some states could end coverage altogether if support drops to low. Would this impact Medicare recipients or is it strictly a Medicaid issue?

No, no it doesn't work like that. I understand why you'd think that though. But the proposed Medicaid funding cuts won't really directly affect the Medicare recipients. Medicaid and Medicare are different programs. Would you like me to stress the difference between the two? It seems to me you already get it anyway by the way you phrased the last sentence.

Yeah, cuts to Medicaid won't directly impact Medicare, but they would affect folks on D-SNP plans since they depend on both. Services like long-term care, transportation, and other extras might be reduced if Medicaid funding goes down. Do you or anyone you know have a D-SNP?

Appreciate the clarification. Definitely helps to separate the 2. My dad has a D-SNP, so this definitely caught my attention. If Medicaid funding gets cut, losing services like transportation and long-term care could be a real problem. Have you seen any updates on how states are handling this?

Medicaid and Medicare are totally separate programs, medicare is federally funded and mostly tied to age or disability, while medicaid is state run with federal support for low income folks

Thanks. A previous reply mentioned that people with D-SNPs could be affected, which is my main worry for my dad. Since Medicaid is state-run, as you said, would the states be the ones to reduce services like transportation for those members?
